We... Super Heroes

I awakened one morning with an overwhelming desire to watch a movie about a Super Hero; it didn’t matter which one, I just knew I had to see one in action. I also realized with a surge of enthusiasm that I really LOVE those types of movies, as I am sure many of you do as well. Along with this overwhelming desire was a compelling thought that consumed me throughout the entire day, “God is trying to show/teach me something”… and HE REALLY WAS.

He is always speaking… we just have to be open and attentive to His voice.

As this day progressed, I found myself in a Library searching for several movies. I didn’t just want Super Heroes; rather, movies about any individual that accomplished GREATNESS during the course of their lives. This idea of GREATNESS had overtaken my soul and what I began to understand is, we all possess the potential to achieve greatness of some level in our lives. After the library, I returned home and decided to watch Man of Steel (Superman) and I thought, why would I want to watch this? This isn’t even real, the man has been infused with something to make him great… he wasn’t just born that way.
About two weeks ago, I was infatuated with THOR, he is my FAVORITE super hero. I have watched this movie so much that I know most of it by heart. Another movie that the captured my attention was Secretariat, the magnificent race horse that broke records and still holds them today. I remember the first time I watched him run, I cried. I was astonished at just how majestic a creature he was… divine in all his glory.

As I thought of these things today, here is what I remember in reverse order. Secretariat was majestic; but, he’d gotten ill and had a horrible race only days before winning the Triple Crown. When he ran his final race, it was so powerful that the crowd (horse people who were familiar with races) stood in complete awe. He made history on that day as he ran with all his might. He stunned the world and silenced his critics. His destiny was to glorify his maker and glorify Him is exactly what he did! While watching the movie I think I held my breath, tears trickling down my face. I suddenly gasped and said, “He is so Majestic” and immediately I heard within myself a voice that said, “and so are you”. I remembered thinking, “Wow, thank you Lord”.

Chris Hemsworth is the actor who plays Thor. He is a complete hunk, let’s just put that out there. I mean, God did a great job putting that man together and Chris has done an excellent job keeping it together! Anyway, I was wondering about the “unhealthy attraction” I had to this movie. I didn’t understand why I would like it so much when in it they speak of gods (little g), Thor himself being the god of thunder and the son of Oden, who is the King of the 9 realms. So, I am listening to the Word of God one day (at home) and Pastor Isaac Pitre was preaching about The Spirit of Adoption, explaining how we Christians have been adopted by God when we are IN THE NAME OF JESUS, not just speak the name; rather, when we LIVE or DWELL IN the name of Jesus, truly becoming partakers of the gift of God named CHRIST, our Savior, Redeemer and Lord.

I prayed one day after listening to this CD for the umpteenth time, “Lord, help me fully understand and receive this ‘Spirit of Adoption’, to KNOW and UNDERSTAND it beyond any doubt and to LIVE or WALK IN THIS PLACE (mentally and naturally) every day”. Days after praying this prayer, it was revealed to me why I loved Thor so much. It was because there was a lesson to be learned, a lesson I had been missing all this time. It was Thor’s confidence in who and whose he was. Often time in this movie he would refer to himself as mighty or the son of Oden (the King) and he dared anyone to challenge him. He possessed a concrete confidence, this inherent attitude of authority, position, rank, etc. God allowed me to watch Mr. Hemsworth, a mere man, take on the role and portray an heir, a king’s kid in an astonishing manner. He took on The Spirit of Adoption and so should we. This Spirit that says, “I AM GOD’S CHILD... how dare anyone threaten me.” We are to walk in this manner confidently, KNOWING (being keenly aware of) ALL THE BENEFITS AND PRIVILEGES that comes with and in the NAME JESUS and we should also have full confidence in the fact that we are also heirs of THE KING OF ALL KINGS.

Finally, let us move on to today’s super hero, in the form of Superman. I mentioned earlier that as I watched it, I thought to myself, “Why watch a man who has been endowed with a power which enables him to do the supernatural?” As that thought came, so did this one, “SO HAVE YOU”. Now, THIS is how we should live. We Christians have been endowed with the same Power that JESUS carried in this world. We have creative power, authority, speech, and abilities beyond our knowledge. This power is readily available to us.
We must make the effort to know through study and understand through practice this massive power. We must possess and take ownership of our position in Him, our authority through him and our VICTORY because of HIM. We are to be impressively and expressively His image and likeness in this earth. This means that in all things we should resemble him, emulating his actions and mannerisms each day. Can you imagine the difference in how our lives will be when we master this Spirit of Adoption concept? It will be utterly amazing.

AS I END THIS TONIGHT, I AM WATCHING QUEEN ELIZABETH… and MY GOD, WE HAVE GOTTEN SO FAR AWAY FROM WHERE WE SHOULD BE RIGHT NOW. The power and authority has been given, assignments discovered; but, when we look at the times we are living in, it is almost enough to say, it’s hopeless and I am certain that those words and feelings are exactly what our enemy would have us believe.
See, he has us so focused on one another, competitions and comparisons with others in our family; BUT, we are the body of Christ, which means that we are ONE. There is no difference between you and I, the only thing that is different is the actual assignment we have been given; however, the fact that we all have been given one is proof enough that we bear the same bloodline. God created us for GREATNESS and HE endowed us with power and ability to BE GREAT. He gave us an assignment to fulfill in this earth and our part is simple. All we have to do is… BELIEVE HIM and BELIEVE IN OURSELVES. We must BELIEVE IN OUR ASSIGNMENTS AND IN EACH PERSONS ABILITY TO ACCOMPLISH THEIR ASSIGNMENTS.

Our assignments are intertwined… just as our lives intertwine. I wrote today about my life’s story becoming Ty’s story and it has because we are one. We are family; therefore, what happens to me, happens to her. In this same vein, what happens in your life and what you accomplish while on assignment for the Kingdom of God is also in part my story. We are one, we are family and your part needs to happen and so does mine. We work individually, separately; though cohesively. We should never compete with one another… you see, I need you to succeed. I need your success for my success; we can liken this to a race. You are the runner handing off the baton to me; my part doesn’t begin until yours is finished. While you running, I prepare myself and I cheer for you. While I cheer you on, I sincerely pray for you to make it successfully through your race. Once you hand it over, it is your turn to cheer for me and when the race is finished… guess what? We all celebrate our united victory!!! We are the body of Christ, we work together in harmony, with each part of the body operating a top capacity or the body breaks down. The choice is simple… ease or dis-ease?

The enemy of our souls and our missions doesn’t want this to happen so he is attempting to wreak havoc in our personal lives and our communities. He is trying his best to keep our focus off the task at hand. You see, when we look at the craziness and the state of the world today, it is enough to make you wonder if we can help at all. And it is human nature to wonder, as long as we do not allow wonder to turn into fear. We have SUPER POWER, SUPER ABILITY and we have SUPER NUMBERS. “Greater works than these, shall they that follow me do” is what Jesus said. Jesus was one while in the earth. When he left, the gift of Holy Spirit allowed Him to be within each believer and each believer now has ability beyond themselves to accomplish great feats, just as the disciples did before us. We need only BELIEVE that we are just as capable.

NOW IS THE TIME, TODAY IS THE DAY. EMPOWERMENT HAS BEEN GIVEN, Assignments have been received, and ACCEPTANCE AND BELIEF, IT IS THE ONLY WAY to walk out our destinies effectively. Let’s believe in ourselves, in our brethren and in our power, authority and ability transform this world. WE ARE GREAT… LET’S BE THAT FOR THE REST OF OUR DAYS! THIS WORLD NEEDS US… I NEED YOU AND I HOPE YOU HAVE COME TO REALIZE THAT YOU NEED ME TOO. WE NEED EACH OTHER TO SURVIVE AND TO SUCCEED.
